I had a great time learning Chinese at Lingolab and I recommend the school to anyone who wants to study Chinese!
The individual classes were perfect for improving my conversational and listening skills.
And the variety of topics gave me a lot of useful vocabulary and cultural insights.
The teachers are very focused on a student’s need, interest, and progress.
And the administration is simple and efficient.
Really a great place to study Chinese!

Loved Lingo Lab! When I arrived in Taipei I knew I needed personalized instruction to fill in the gaps left by my independent study. Initially, I signed up with another school, but I was very uncomfortable with their “pick a book” approach. After I panicked, I found Lingo Lab online, enrolled, and started one-on-one classes immediately. Best decision! All of the instructors were focused on challenging me to practice what I had learned, doing so in a fun environment. I enjoyed it so much and told my roommates. They later joined me for customized group classes and they loved it too. Would definitely go back for more! We shed some tears our last day since we were sad it was over!

The class is very close to the MRT station and class time is very convenient. The environment of class is also nice. The debby teacher is so nice and patient to listen to all queries. The teacher is so friendly with all students and connects with every student in class. The debby teacher has boosted the confidence of speaking and keeps reviewing all vocabulary used in daily life. The debby 老师 teaches students with different games make student engaged in the classroom and have fun. The class is more focused on speaking. 我可以推荐 The beginner should join the class as they focused on grammar.

I’m an ABC that’s been living in TW for more than 6 years. I already have a foundational level of Chinese fluency, so was looking for a way to enhance my speaking and vocabulary, while maintaining a FT job. After exploring hoards of cram schools around Guting, I can definitively say that LingoLab is one of the best in town (also conveniently located around Dunhua).

Over the last 1.5 years, I’ve worked 1: 1 with at least 5 different LingoLab teachers including the co-founder Ann herself. Although each have their own teaching styles, I think they are all effective. They can facilitate classes in a more structured, textbook-based style or topic-based, daily conversation style. All teachers come prepared for class, and have been adept at helping me improve the fluidity and complexity of my sentence structures. Moreover, they’re all quite talkative, positive, and energetic.

They’ve also been very accommodating in terms of scheduling, allowing both online and offline settings, while offering flexibility in timing. Hourly rates and tuition fees are on par with other cram schools, but the fact that they’re located in a much more central location further tips the scales in their favor IMO.

Highly recommend!

This is an excellent place to study, they have small classes and the teachers are very attentive and adaptive to different learning styles. The class schedule is flexible for working adults, which was great for me. I studied with Debbie, she is super sweet and passionate about teaching. She was very patient and provided individual attention when needed. She was also willing to adapt class to allow me to join virtually while I was on work travel. I’d highly recommend LingoLab for people who want to jump in and learn the basics of Mandarin for getting around in Taiwan.

I spent 3 years in Canada studying Mandarin by myself and with a few teachers with simplified characters. My reason for coming to Taipei was to learn via immersion. LingoLab was perfect.

Spending on average 3 hours a day talking or reading with Ann 老師 for about 30 days, I went from being unable to speak in conversation, to being comfortable expressing myself in any context, and being able to comprehend colloquial spoken Mandarin.

At some point I lost my phone in an Uber and she managed to contact the driver, and when he said he had given the phone to the police station, she went with me and helped me get it back. Ann 老師 also gladly took videos of me ordering from different restaurants.

There’s probably not a more efficient way to learn Chinese in Taiwan than to take 1 on 1 lessons at LingoLab.

The teachers at this school are very friendly and flexible. They'll adapt to whatever your needs are. Sometimes they're a bit too flexible and don't push the writing enough.

Good school to learn Chinese from the beginning or refine Chinese for someone who has already some level of it. Very convenient for transit and in a beautiful neighborhood for fare and drinks after class as a reward.

I just completed a year with Ann Laoshi at LingoLab and this was easily and hands down one of the best experiences I've had involving a foreign language.

I moved to Taipei from the US early last year, and though I took some Chinese language classes before, I still found myself struggling to apply my rudimentary skills in an immersive and homogenous culture such as Taiwan. I found LingoLab after much research and their stellar reviews and convenient location impressed me enough to check them out.

Ann Laoshi encouraged me to come in for a complimentary session and see if it fits my comfort level and needs. While I was quite apprehensive at first, given my obvious lack of Chinese conversational skills, I was pleasantly surprised at how tolerant and patient Ann Laoshi was. Though we started using a textbook at first, we quickly stopped using it and moved to a more practical and logical approach. I fully credit Ann Loashi for recognizing and understanding my language intake pace/preference and adapting as my confidence and communication fluency improved.

So, now a year into my lessons, I only converse in Chinese during my lessons and I can confidently say that my learning, adopting and adapting experience has given me the ability to thrive autonomously in Taiwan. I am able to converse in Chinese in most daily situations and circumstances.

I would whole-heartedly recommend LingoLab and Ann Laoshi to anyone who is looking for an enjoyable and a more practical approach to learning Chinese.

NB - Laoshi is the Chinese word for Teacher)

After a year at Lingo Lab my Chinese has improved A LOT!

After completing a 3 month intensive course at NTNU, I wanted to continue my Chinese studies with a focus on speaking and conversation. I was recommended Lingo Lab by a friend and I couldn't have made a better choice.

During the past year I've been taking one on one 1 hour classes with Ann twice a week. From the very first lesson she only spoke Chinese with me, which has really helped me push myself to only speak Chinese.

The structure is very flexible based on your needs. I chose to focus on speaking, listening, conversation, but also follow the "A Course in Contemporary" textbook based on my own pace.

Most lessons start with casual conversation, which has probably been the most useful part. Depending on the flow of the class we will also go through new grammar and vocabulary from the textbook.

Ann does a great job of being casual and friendly, but also correcting my mistakes and teaching me new things.

For anyone looking to improve their Chinese with private lessons I would highly recommend reaching out to Lingo Lab!

I've been taking Mandarin classes with Mila for almost one year now. Lingo Lab has a wonderful, unique approach to language learning that is organic, intuitive, and flexible to the individual needs of the students. Though I'm a terrible student, she is a GREAT teacher and my mandarin has improved immensely. I highly recommend this jewel of a school.

Based on recommendation from a friend, I have been taking 1-1 lessons here with Mila for 6 months now. The lessons are super fun and tailored to my learning goals and I have been able to make a lot of progress quickly! We try to only use Mandarin in our lessons, which seemed scary at first, but Mila is great at making me comfortable using and growing my limited Mandarin skills (I just started learning this year). I also appreciate how accommodating she has been in finding a time for our lessons: Due to my busy work schedule, I had to change our regular lesson time many times and despite her having many other students, we were always able to find a time that works for us both.

You should try LingoLab!
I came to Taiwan knowing very little Chinese. I was looking for a program that stresses listening and conversational skills, and could provide me practice with useful, everyday language. LingoLab is exactly that, and the focus on conversation and immersion has helped me become more confident in my everyday interactions. I can ask Mila what to say when I don’t know a word or how to use phrases or words that I have heard, and she provides instant translations and practical explanations that allow me to immediately begin using my new vocabulary. We also use a textbook to practice reading traditional characters and learn common vocabulary, but listening and speaking remains the priority. I definitely prefer this style of teaching to the more writing and reading focused courses available in most universities. Additionally, my job keeps me quite busy, and my schedule can be hectic and unpredictable. Mila is so kind and accommodating of my schedule, and is just generally lovely. You’ll be surprised how quickly you learn— take advantage of the free trial class!

I have been studying Chinese for about 3 years. I was looking for a place to take 1-1 lessons a couple hours a week to improve my everyday conversation, and maybe learn a bit of business Chinese. I came across Lingo Lab. It's really close to the MRT station and has good reviews, so I thought I'd try it out!

I was assigned to Teacher Ann, who is very friendly and professional. From the beginning, she got to know my level and my learning goals, and she designed the course based on that.

Our class is structured as follows, but each student can customize based on their specific needs/level:

We free talk for about half the class, where the teacher corrects any mistakes I make, lets me practice things I've learned recently, and introduces new words/phrases that I can use in the future. She sends these words to me via Line after class, which I can then study and start speaking in real life. I've found that most of the things she teaches in class, including both colloquial and business language, I immediately hear outside of class, so it's very relevant.

For the other half of each class, we use a textbook. You can study from the NTNU curriculum here (A Course in Contemporary Chinese - 當代中文課程系列), or you can use other textbooks/material based on your interests. There aren't tests or quizzes, but I'm sure we could have them if I wanted. Outside of class, I can look at vocab, grammar, and practice questions, which we go over together in the next class.

Overall, I would recommend this place to beginners, intermediate, and advanced students alike. This place is a good choice for people who are seeking 1-1 speaking/listening practice in a less formal environment than places like NTNU and NTU, or who are too busy to attend a full-time language program, or who live near the eastern side of Taipei kind of far from most other language centers.

My teacher's attitude is very positive and laid-back, she asks good questions, and she listens patiently while I practice speaking about things in my life. I feel that I've learned some very useful things in the 6+ months I've been here, and people around me say my Chinese has improved. In my view, Lingo Lab definitely offers a great value!

Wow.

I learned Chinese for 5 months here and had incredible progress. Unlike other schools they help you work towards your goals, whatever they may be.

Even though I took class everyday, I was never bored. We always had new topics and class felt more like an adventure than a regular class.
