We stayed 5 nights at this hostel so that we could go surfing. However, we encountered a few disappointments:
1. Poor communication from staff. We did not see the surf staff the evening before, but saw the notice board downstairs said 7am surf. We were up for 7am but the surf bus had already left two hours earlier. We were gutted to miss that day's surfing.
2. The lad who did the surf shuttle was given the day off another morning, which meant no surfing as they had no one else to run the shuttle (despite the hostel having lots of staff). Another day of disappointment.
3. I think Wagaligong would benefit from having a better surf guide system that you see at other surf hostels. After the shuttle they just leave you to it - there's no attempt to tell you about the spot (rocks, rips, etc).
4. Extremely poor kitchen facilities. Hardly any cutlery and only two (broken) mugs.
Dulan is a lovely place to visit, but considering Wagaligong branded itself a surf hostel, our surf experience was very disappointing. This was probably not helped by the fact the owners were clearly away.

Best surfing instructors. If they can teach me, they can teach you!

I tried surfing eons ago in Florida by following my surfer friends. They tried to help me with tips and all. But I spent the day fighting the waves and worn myself out. It didn’t work and I got frustrated. So I was a bit nervous this year when boys trip have surfing on agenda at Taitung. A typhoon was about to hit Japan and the waves was even bigger.

Good that Mark and his team structured their lesson very well. He started by explaining the geography of the beach, and the waves and channels that formed a system, so we knew how to handle ourselves, and there was no need to panic, in case something happened. Then he explained the physical techniques involved. Finally we practiced with him and his team of instructors. The whole time I felt safe and was progressing.

And they are such cool people!

It was a very enjoyable experience. I highly recommend that you look up these guys if you are thinking about surfing in this area.

Surfing lessons here are really great! The guys teach you what you need to know about the beach in a really clear efficient way.

我們並非在此住宿，只針對衝浪部分評分，我們約9點時到店裡詢問租板事宜，店家請我們9點半再過來，也許到時候可以載我們過去，9點半再次前往店家，說可前往衝浪，11: 30會再把大家再載回店內。我們退房時間是12點，1點要去取綠島船票，時間非常完美，因此就決定去衝浪了。但萬萬沒想到，11: 30衝浪時間到了，司機卻一直沒有來載人，打電話聯絡半天，只說會來會來，最後到快12點半，才載著另一群客人抵達地點，還要看著他們先放人放板下車，才載我們回到店裡，當時早就過了民宿退房時間，眼見接下來的綠島船班也快來不及了，當下也沒時間想別的，只能趕緊騎車回民宿。還好民宿老闆體諒，沒有算我們延遲退房的費用，最後就慌慌張張行李亂包一通，也來不及吃點東西，就帶著沾滿沙子和海水的身體，肚子腦袋空空，神經緊繃的去搭船了。就算我們後面沒有安排別的行程，被延遲1個小時，還是非常不愉快的經驗.

This review is solely about WaGaLiGong as a surf school.

Located right on Dulan main street you can't miss WaGaLiGong. My girlfriend and me stayed in Dulan for a week. She was surfing a few times and it was my first time surfing.

We had a lesson with Mark which was very, very informative and also very entertaining. Mark is just a force of nature and he transcends love for surfing and the ocean. At first you'll learn a lot about bathymetry, which honestly helped me so much in my ongoing surf adventure. My girlfriend never heard of it until Marks lesson. Other topics include Surf-Lingo, Surf-Community, winds and weather systems and of course practical surfing.

The lessons never go beyond 6 or 7 people and you get shuttled down to the beach for 500NT$ (600 for a whole day).

We also had the pleasure of surfing with the very mellow and passionate guest instructor Simon Chipper at the time, who also helped us a lot with just a few tips and details on technique.

After a week in Dulan both of us, transitioned to hardboards and were catching unbroken waves in other spots in Taiwan.

So all in all, if you plan on doing a surf lesson or if you want to get infos about the spot (all the people working at WaGaLiGong are very nice) in Dulan you should defintely check out WaGaLiGong.

They really sparked the fire in me, brah.

Dulan's one and only surf shop, and walking distance from the beach. Also a really chill hostel to stay at with lots of travelers hanging around and having a good time.

住宿房內，沒衛生紙。房間房客多，廁所少。樓下商店狂歡時，喧嘩聲音會傳到二樓，頂樓烤肉也大聲喧嘩放音樂，樓上樓下反應，都沒用。晚上10點告知我們已睡覺了，請他們小聲點，他們的回答是11: 30才算真的打洋。真的是離譜。每次問他們，得到的回覆都是: 你聽到的是上面吵，還是下面吵的聲音?

要入住前，還特別問帶看的先生，如果一樓店面音樂太大聲吵到二樓，怎麼辦? 他說你都可以反應給我們，我們一定幫你處理。現在看來，這些話都言不由衷了。老闆本身就是喜歡這樣吵鬧的一分子了，怎麼可能會顧及旅客的權益?

想要入住的旅客，慎思了。

1. 文化交流並不代表，在晚上十點多了，不尊重其它旅客權益，大聲喧嘩狂歡，屢勸三次，不為所動，好像我們才是怪胎。這是把你們無視他人的被干擾合理化了。到晚上11點多，喧嘩聲還是在。即便是其它背包客棧，也不見如此行為。

2. 當一個人對店家提出三次請求小聲點，只得到敷衍的回覆，事後不見任何改善，你覺得誰還會再想和你們當面再溝通? 再溝通有用嗎？回覆不都是一樣嗎？

3. 帶房人說的很清楚了，有什麼吵鬧問題都可反應，房內也貼文可打某隻手機反應，但那個電話，打了是沒用的，因為沒人接。

4. 你們應該設下一個免責聲明，在官網處:

這樣就可以少了這些看來並不討喜的負面評論了。

Friendly, fun, clean, welcoming, good location, good vibes. We enjoyed our night here talking with fellow travelers over drinks. The owners are great and their help was wonderful. We were in bunk beds. They were a bit hard but not the worse we have been on.

My friend and I stayed at the hostel for three days just this summer. Overall, we appreciate the hospitality and the vibe, the staffs were friendly and were willing to share their experiences with us. However, the thing that kept bothering me is the cleanliness of the environment. We saw a huge cockroach when we were taking shower in the bathroom, and some tiny spiders as well. Also, shoes are not allowed in the common area, yet the floor was very dusty. During the morning, we borrowed the bikes provided by the hostel, but the bike seat wasn't adjustable, it was too high for us to ride. We tried to ask for help, but the staffs were too busy to help. We still had a lot of fun during our stayed in the hostel, the room was comfortable and quiet during night time.

The burger was amazing and made with a lot of love and the ingredients were all fresh. Fries were okay. Staff really friendly.

A cool chilled place with a good atmosphere. Drinks are average price. They ran out of pizza on a Friday night which was a shame. The pasta was okay but quite bland.

I find this place for dinner. Interesting place. It seems they only make certain food at certain day. They have a variety of alcoholic drinks though. We are in on pastas day. Taste good.

Very chilled place full of nice international staff and relaxed atmosphere! Accomodation suitable for all range of travellers from humble backpackers to demanding couples or groups. Perfect place for surfers! Marc's lessons are the best, very enthusiastic guy. Restaurant is also great, especially enjoyed the burger! Highly recommended

Nice facilities and helpful staff. Only issue was that they make you pay a security deposit for room keys but failed to tell us that they have limited front desk hours. We had to delay our departure two hours and wait for someone who works there to show up to check us out.

Staff were friendly and helpful, rooms and bathrooms were super clean. Awesome rooftop and chill vibe in the common area. Surf lesson was well organized and the instructor Mark was patient and clearly passionate about exposing people to surfing and teaching new surfers how to be safe.

2nd time here, and place grows more and more on me. Great place to eat, drink, meet people from all over the world. Owners are the best.
Clean and comfy rooms. Awesome pizzas and drinks menu. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for easy going travelers.

Cool hostel within walking distance of the beaches in Dulan. All the staff members are friendly and fun to hang out with. Awesome open rooftop to kick it during the evenings and catch the night sky without city lights interfering like most other places in Taiwan. You can bump music up there too. It rained half of the time while I was there, but still enjoyed my stay and the good vibes.
